You as Leader: Three Friday Mornings with Denise Picton
Series One Full
FOUR PLACES LEFT IN SERIES TWO
Management development with Denise Picton, MD, OzTrain
Three Friday mornings from 9-12.30,
a couple of weeks apart.
Clients are telling me they don't have time or resources to launch in
house management development programs, can't spare people for whole days
at a time, or don't have enough people to set up a whole program
internally. Many of the leaders in my network tell me they would like
short, focused top-ups on key topics, with a chance to translate the key
ideas and relate them to their real work.
As a result, I am offering the You as Leader Management Development Series, repeated several times across the year.
Morning 1: Strategic thinking and planning, building gravitas and executive presence.
What’s the difference between strategic thinking and strategic
planning, and does it matter? If you were being “more strategic”, what
would you be doing? How do you think strategically, and can anyone learn
to do it? And what’s the difference between thinking and planning? In
this session we unwind these questions together. You will leave
convinced that you need to do more strategic thinking – and you’ll know
how to do it.
We will also explore the notion of gravitas, or executive presence.
What is it? How do you develop it? And why does it matter? By the end of
the session you will have good ideas and practical tips about being a
force to be reckoned with in key interactions.
Morning 2: Political Savvy, Power and Influence
How can you read the political styles others are using, and are you
clear about your own? What do you give power to, and does it serve you
well? What power bases are available to you to influence others, and how
do you put an effective influence strategy together?
For this session, participants will be encouraged to keep something in
mind they would like to influence, and use it to apply a range of tools
and techniques to build and influence plan. You will leave with a spring
in your step, believing you might be able to make a difference after
all.
Morning 3: Dealing with Tricky People
The third session in the series will centre around case studies about
the kinds of behaviours that can be difficult to manage up, down or
across to. What lenses can you use to assess what’s going on? What
strategies can you use to work to more positive outcomes? How do you
manage yourself during difficult interactions? This session will
encourage you to look at your own responses, and think about how to
build a different bridge with challenging people.
Venue: OzTrain
training room, Room 114, level 1, Aurora Building, 147 Pirie Street.

Coffee will be available on arrival, as well as at morning tea time.
Cost:
I will provide a range of resources on each topic in paper and electronic form.
Cost per person for the series of three sessions will be $1,200 plus
