Stephen Parsons Principal Consultant

Stephen joined the oztrain team in 2016, bringing with him a diverse range of experience in senior leadership roles and consultancy work in Australia and overseas.

He has led large, complex teams in the international development and higher education sectors, designing and implementing major programs and projects, and dealing with the many challenges that arise in rapidly changing environments. Stephen has experience operating effectively across cultures, having spent five years living and working in Laos, Vietnam, and Botswana, as well as completing an Australian Government-funded placement at the International Islamic University Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur.

Stephen has a strong history of working with teams and individuals to identify the critical issues in complex situations and then design and implement effective and sustainable responses.  Since 2014 he has consulted independently in Australia and across Asia and the Pacific, working with clients on program/project design and evaluation, strategic and operational planning, Value for Money assessment, environmental scanning and competitor analysis, facilitation and training, and leadership development.

At oztrain Stephen has worked with a wide range of clients, including the Auditor-General’s Department, the Public Health and Clinical Systems branch in the Department of Health and Aging, the Department of Child Protection, the Department of Education and Child Development, Watto Purrunna Aboriginal Health Service, the State Pathology Department, and Disability SA.  Much of this activity has focussed on strategic thinking and planning, development of monitoring and evaluation frameworks, leadership development, workshop facilitation and executive coaching.

Returning regularly to study over the years, Stephen holds a Bachelor of Education, a Master of Evaluation and a Master of Development Studies.  When the weekends come around he strives to control the weeds and chickens in a large garden, and heads into the hills on long walks with his wife and their dog.
