Your own energy monitor

Monday September 8, 2014

Why not set up your own monitor to keep an eye on how you use and distribute your energy at work? This idea has arisen with a number of coaching clients recently, who want to:

  • preserve some energy for the family, or for yourself, after work
  • effectively distribute energy across the range of business in a day
  • move to improving delegation to others
  • choose to put some time into reflection about work, as well as doing the tasks.

One example we devised recently is to imagine you have (say) four full cells of energy to use up across the whole day.

How many, or how much, will you allocate to your duties at work? How many will you preserve for home? Make a simple allocation in your mind at the beginning of the day and then monitor the usage as the day goes along. Reflect on how this went, at the end of the day.

A simple idea which might support a more designed use of your precious energy.

I would love to hear any other ideas like this...
